When we were designing this heart rate monitor, we called it “The Basic.” Real simple. A few special features that you don’t need to use if you don’t want to. Continuous heart rate display. One heart rate zone. You select a high and a low heart rate. The watch beeps outside the zone, and at the end of a workout, tells you how long you were able to stay in the zone. Also shows average heart rate at the end of a workout. A simple stopwatch. Tells the time and date. Safe in a swimming pool. The watch and the chest strap both have a battery hatch, so you can change the battery yourself.

After many hours of reading reviews I knew that Nike was probably my best bet. I wasn’t interested in the battery issue the Polar monitors have and so many of the others just didn’t rate well.
Getting an accurate monitor is especially important to me because I am working out nearly everyday and am pregnant, so I have to monitor myself and back off when needed. I chose this watch because it is fairly basic, stopwatch, heartrate, and time- all I need.
I’ve been using it for a couple months now and am happy with it. This is a good quality monitor for a fair price. The strap is comfortable, I forget I’m wearing it. I love that the gym’s equipment picks up its signal as soon as I get on to display my HR on the screen. So far I’ve not ever had a problem with another HR monitor interfereing when I do my spin or other classes. I’ve found it to be very accurate while working out. However, at rest it seems a bit off sometimes- but that’s not when I’m concerned about my HR. During one workout last week I was getting some odd readings, but I had not wet it before strapping it on so I don’t think it was getting a good signal. It seems as long as I do what I’m supposed to do (rub a little water on it before strappping it on) then it does what it’s supposed to do. Unless you want to spend a lot more money on a Polar, and hassle with returning it for battery replacements, this is probably the next best thing- or just as good!
One final note of importance, I broke off the attachment piece to the strap my third time ever using it! I wasn’t paying close attention and pulled at it the wrong way in my rush. I called the customer service number that came in the box and was helped very quickly. No problem, a new strap was sent immediately with no cost to me! Nike was great to work with.
